Sense of Place….a body of work that expands my environmental practice, by finding and working with clay dug and processes from a range of locations in the north east. I have already discovered clay on Horden beach and want the clay I find to be used to make a series of vessels that explore a sense of place. Exploring the concept of ‘genius loci’ referring to the prevailing character or atmosphere of a place. Every place will have its own unique qualities, not only in terms of its physical makeup, but of how it is perceived. By taking materials directly from location the geological elements and history of the site will echo in the vessels created.
