The image of Private Theophilus Jones, from Hartlepool, was etched into the beach on Remembrance Sunday as the country marked 100 years since the end of the First World War.
Pte Jones was the first British soldier to die on English soil during the conflict.
I helped to create the portrait before it was washed away by the tide.
Pages of the Sea saw portraits produced around the country’s coastline.
Danny Boyle said: “The idea was to come to the beaches, create a work of art on the beach and to say goodbye to all the people who left from these beaches a hundred years ago.”
